Trooper to Take Centre Stage at Weir Baseball Field
Sackville, NS April 23, 2009 – From the group of volunteers that brought you April Wine in 2007, and rocked the stage with Chilliwack and Haywire in 2008, the small but mighty Weir Rockin outdoor concert event is back again for a third show.
Today, Weir Rockin officials announced that Canadian rock and roll legends, Trooper, along with other surprise guests are slated to take to the stage on Saturday, August 22, 2009.
“From the beginning we decided that we would maintain a show that was fun, safe and affordable for everyone”, comments Andy Conrad, Executive Director of Weir Rockin. “We identified people in the community that could help us in key areas and we use their expertise to guide us on organizing the event.”
With a Steering Committee of just 8 people, more than 100 volunteers are identified and organized to host the expected 2000 people. “Our past successes have provided us with the resources to come back with another event” comments Conrad, “we have some great returning sponsors and supporters and they allow us to offer services such as the free-shuttle from Lower Sackville.
When asked about tickets for the event Conrad explained that they have not gone on sale yet, but he expects they will be available in early June. "Our experience tells us that tickets will likely move fast. We know the community enjoys having an event like this, and we are confident that we’ll see that support again this year.”
The goal of Weir Rockin is to be a self-sustaining event. Any profit generated from the show is put back into planning and organizing of future shows. With enough small successes, Weir Rockin organizers hope to some day be able to bring a high-profile act to the area.
