About Weir Rockin'
Weir Rockin' is a non-profit, volunteer-based community group, formed in conjunction with the Springfield Lake Recreation Association (SLRA) in Middle Sackville, Nova Scotia, Canada.
The committee consists of staff and board members of the SLRA, as well as several volunteers with specialized backgrounds lending their expertise to various aspects of the annual event!
The committee was formed in November 2006, at which time a feasibility study was initiated to see if the community would support the idea of an annual outdoor rock concert.
Weir Rockin' was formed in 2006 by a group of volunteers from the Lower Sackville Nova Scotia area. The (first) summer of '07 was a sell-out. The opening act MacGillvray Brothers, a local favourite and headliners April Wine rocked the sell-out crowd and planted Weir Rockin squarely in the hearts of many local music fans!
With the infrastructure taking shape, the committee decided to keep going. Weir Rockin' returned in 2008 featuring bands Chilliwack and Haywire. This time Jon Mullane and Under the Sun filled the opening act spots and warmed up the crowd.
By 2009 word about the event had spread. Fans were now scheduling summer vacations around Weir Rockin and a buzz surrounded the event. In August of that year the show was kicked-off with a long-time Sackville favourite, Chambermade. After Chambermade got the crowd primed, rock legends Harlequin took to the stage, followed by Canadian rock legends Trooper.
What started off as a long-shot, has now become a staple of summer for the people of Sackville and surrounding areas. Run entirely by volunteers, Weir Rockin' has quickly
been tagged as one of the best-run events of the summer season.
